FES 2, Iron Sulfide
Written by Bryan on May 14th, 2009 in Health Advisory.
FES2, WHAT IS IT?
FES2, also known as iron sulfide, has been found in the Chinese Drywalls of many newly built homes.
More than 100,000 homes built within the last 5 years said to have been affected by this compound.
The EPA is still working on identifying the homes that may contain these drywalls, but the reports so far have been coming all around the US, particularly around Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Virginia and North Carolina.
Many may have been trying to identify Fe2 using air sampling, but it has shown that it is not effective. (Via Webwire)
“The problem appears to be related to the presence of iron disulfide (FeS2 pyrite). Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbonyl sulfide, sulfur dioxide (SO2), and carbon disulfide (CS2) are also suspected as culprits. EMSL Analytical has recently developed a procedure that can accurately compare certain sulfur gasses contained in suspect drywall versus control samples.
Air sampling methods (such as EPA TO-15 and ASTM D5504) do not consistently identify spaces with other odorous drywall symptoms, such as odors, irritation, and copper corrosion. There are so many factors, including temperature, moisture, HVAC operation, etc., that affect what is present in the air that other sampling methods should be utilized. Bulk testing has proven to be the most reliable testing methods. EMSL can show that the material differs in composition from normal, non-problem drywall by XRF/XRD microscopy. This test alone may not tell the whole story.”
“You might have Chinese dry-stone wall in your home if you are feeling: Respiratory irritation, Irritated eyes, Persistent headaches, Nose bleeds, Wheezing, Coughing, Sneezing, Difficulty breathing. Or a different symptoms are alike to those of asthma attack, bronchitis, and another respiratory disorders.” via (hotbreakingnews.com)

You may have heard of Sciatica pain. But it is important to note that Sciatica Pain is not a specific symptom that focuses on a specific diagnosis. However, Sciatica pain refers to a general pain caused by compression of various different nerves that are either of or stems from the sciatic nerve in the lower back. Sciatica Pain is also known as radiculopathy.
